There are 3 train stations in Nice: The 1st Train Station is "Gare Thiers".

All of these stations are within central Nice.

Taxis are available upon arrival to take you to your apartment, normally a 10-minute journey. In addition, all train stations are connected to the Nice tramway system which has stops throughout the city.

Obviously, there are several ways to reach downtown Nice by car. A good roadmap will be essential in preparing your journey. For those who have never driven in Nice, here are some very basic tips which may be helpful:

NIceis surrounded by a beltway, or ring road, called the A8. As you approach the capital by highway, here are some translations which may be helpful:

The exits on and off of the A8 are called Sortie, often abbreviated PTE on road signs. The exit you take will depend on the direction from which you are arriving.

Once driving on city streets, navigating is somewhat different from the alpha-numeric grid systems of North American cities. White signs along boulevards and at all major intersections will indicate the best route to reach different areas of the city. The signs and itineraries are based on major city landmarks such as Prmoenade des Anglais / Vieille Ville / Cours Saleya and so forth.

Street markers in Nice are small and located on the sides of buildings. Therefore, street names are only become useful once you are on the small, one-way streets within a particular neighborhood.
